Hello my loyal fan base (singular)!
The new work slot this week is dedicated to a recent trip to the Amalfi Coast! What a fabulous place to visit, from Vietri Sul Mare at the eastern end to Positano at the western end. A trip to Vesuvius & the ancient city of Pompeii were also made.
So many beautiful sights were seen, from towering cliffs, historic cathedrals, azure blue seas, the crater of Vesuvius and of course, the incredible city of Pompeii, a must see for any traveller! I could bleat on for ages about it but that would just bore you, so look at the pictures and you will see what I mean!
The picture of the rose above was captured in the garden of Villa Cimbrone, Ravello, for me, it will always be a reminder of the following sad tale:
Ernest William Beckett, Lord Grimthorpe discovered the abandon late roman estate at Ravello at the end of the 19th century. He was on a grand tour recovering from a severe form of depression following the early death of his much loved wife. The location on an outcrop of rock looking over the Amalfi coast brought him immense happiness, so he bought the estate and rejuvenated it in a style of Italian meets English!
There is a place in the garden known as Mercury's seat, there is an inscription on a plaque quoted from Catullus, it reads:
"lost to the world of which I desire no part, I sit alone and speak to my heart, satisfied with my little corner of the world, content to feel no more sadness for death".
It struck me that perhaps they may well have been the final thoughts of Lord Grimthorpe as he looked out over the clear blue seas!
Please take a look at the gallery and feel free to leave your comments and thoughts.
Bye for now.
PS - I have combined the HDR & Mono gallery to the same page and have added a motor sport page!
I have an interest in photography and am attempting to train my eye and improve my technique!
